
A checklist on how to pass drive test in Canada and USA for G2 or G
Here is a comprehensive list of things against which you will be judged during your G or G2 drive test in Canada or USA.
If you follow rules for the below mentioned categories, I can guarantee you that you will PASS you drive test without any hassle.

Category #1 TURNS
1.1 Approaching a Turn
1.1.1 Traffic check
- Did you use the left mirror
- Did you use the right mirror
1.1.2 Lane
- Were you in the correct lane to turn?
- Was the timing to change lane correct?
1.1.3 Signal
- Did you give a signal at all?
- Was the signal late?
- Signal at entrance?
1.1.4 Speed
- Was the speed uneven?
- Was Braking uneven?
- Was the car in correct gear?
- and Coast, was the car steady?
1.1.5 Gap
- Did you maintain 1-2 seconds gap between cars?
1.1.6 Stop (if applicable)
- Did you make a full stop?
- Were you rolling during the stop?
- Did you block the traffic?
- When you stopped, were you able to see the rear wheels of the car in front of you? if not, you were too close.
- Were you over the stop line?
- Did you turn your wheels or kept it straight?
- Note:
- When waiting to take left turn, keep the wheels straight
- In case you get hit from the back, your car should move ahead and not to left lane
- traffic check before moving a head/left/right
- if its a red light, ALWAYS come to full stop even if you want to make right turn.
1.2 While Turning
1.2.1 Traffic check
- did you check traffic using LEFT - RIGHT - LEFT approach?
- did you do a blind spot check?
1.2.2 Hands/gears
- Did you keep both of your hands on the steering wheel?
- Did you apply appropriate gear?
1.2.3 Speed
- did you wait 4-5 seconds before turning?
- were you too slow to turn?
- were you too fast to turn?
1.2.4 Wide/Short
- was your turn too wide into a different lane?
- was your turn too short in a different lane?
1.3 After the Turn
1.3.1 Lane
- were you into a wrong lane?
- did you move right or not?
1.3.2 Traffic check
- Did you match up your speed with the traffic?
- Too fast, too slow?
- Did you apply the correct gears?
Category #2 LANE CHANGES
2.1 BUSINESS / RESIDENTIAL / EXPRESSWAY
2.1.1 Traffic check:
- did you check the car in front?
- did you check cars left and right?
- did you check the mirrors?
- did you check the blind spots?
2.1.2 Signals:
- did you give appropriate signal?
- the timing of signal
2.1.3 Spacing:
- did you maintain proper space from the cars in front?
- did you maintain proper space from the cars behind?
- did you maintain proper space from the cars from sides?
2.1.4 Speed:
- were you too fast during the lane change?
- were you too slow during the lane change?
2.1.5 Change:
- was the change too sharp?
- after the change, were you in the center of the lane or not?
2.1.6 Hands:
- were you driving with one hand?
- note: always use both hands (I got a warning during my test lol)
2.1.7 Signal:
- were the signal still on after 5 seconds of lane change?
Category #3 Driving in BUSINESS / RESIDENTIAL
3.1 Traffic checks
- did you look for hazards?
- did you look for construction?
3.2 Mirrors check:
- did you check your mirrors every 10 seconds?
3.3 Lanes:
- were you in correct lane?
- were you looking out for obstacles?
3.4 Speed:
- Make sure to follow the speed limit (not too fast, not too slow)
3.5 Spacing:
- did you maintain 2-3 second of gap with the front car
- were the rear wheels of the front car visible?
- check for space from sides
- check blind spots
Category #4 EXPRESSWAY driving
4.1 Entering
4.1.1 Traffic check
- Did you check traffic at the left?
- Did you check traffic at the right?
- Did you check the mirrors?
- Did you check the blind spots?
4.1.2 Signal
- Did you give a late signal?
- Did you give a signal at all?
- Did you leave the signal on even after 5 seconds?
4.1.3 Spacing
- did you maintain 2-3 seconds of gap with the front car?
- did you maintain 2-3 seconds of gap with the car behind?
- did you maintain center position in your lane?
- did you maintain correct space when getting out of the acceleration lane?
4.1.4 Speed
- did you drive too fast?
- did you drive too slow?
- were you accelerating after acceleration lane?
4.1.5 Merge
- did you merge smoothly or the merge was sharp?
- after merge were you at the center of your lane?
4.2 Driving Along the expressway
4.2.1 Traffic check
- Did you check traffic every 5 seconds?
4.2.2 Speed
- Were you going over the speed limit?
- Were you going along with the running traffic's speed?
4.2.3 Spacing
- did you maintain 2-3 seconds of gap with the front car?
- did you maintain 2-3 seconds of gap with the car behind?
- did you maintain center position in your lane?
4.3 Exiting
4.3.1 Traffic check
- Did you check traffic at the left?
- Did you check traffic at the right?
- Did you check the mirrors?
- Did you check the blind spots?
4.3.2 Signal
- Did you give a late signal?
- Did you give a signal at all?
- Did you leave the signal on even after 5 seconds?
- Did you leave the signal on at the ramp end?
4.3.3 Exit Lane
- Were you over the line?
- Did you merge to the exit lane after it started?
- Did you take a sharp turn to merge to the exit lane?
4.3.4 Speed
- Do not slow down on the expressway for the exit
- Maintain correct spacing from front, behind and sides
- Did you make a smooth slow down for exit?
Category #5 STOP INTERSECTIONS
5.1 Approach
5.1.1 Traffic check
- Did you use the left mirror
- Did you use the right mirror
5.1.2 Speed
- Was the speed uneven?
- Was Braking uneven?
- Was the car in correct gear?

5.1.3 Gap

5.2 Stopping
5.2.1 Full stop

5.2.2 Position

Category #6 CURVES

Category #7 PARKING
7.1 Parallel parking
- Did you check traffic at the left?
- Did you check traffic at the right?

- Did you give signal before parking?
7.2 Curb side parking
- Did you check traffic at the left?
- Did you check traffic at the right?
- Did you check the mirrors?
- Did you check the blind spots?
- Did you give signal before parking?
- Did you keep the tires to appropriate direction?
- Rule: car should hit the curb if it starts to roll.
- Turn the steering wheel to the left so the wheels are turned towards the road if you are facing uphill with a curb. The tires will catch the curb if it rolls backward.
- Turn the steering wheel to the right so the wheels are turned away from the road if you are facing downhill with a curb. The tires will catch the curb if it rolls forward.
A quick note:
If you want you can record your driving test. Legally you are allowed to that as long as you are not recording the driving instructor.
There is no law that prohibits you from recording your driving test.
